Jacques Saayman, SAIT, Cross-Country Running

Marmot Basin/Hostelling International Jasper Athlete of the Week for October 24 - 30, 2016

SAIT Trojans men's cross-country runner Jacques Saayman couldn't have picked a better time to have his best race of the season, as he became the first Trojan to win the men's individual gold medal at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Cross-Country Running Championships in 30 years with a time of 27:49 in the eight kilometre race. Following a difficult summer in which he was evacuated from Fort McMurray, Alta., due to the wildfires, Saayman worked hard to get back in shape for the season, and improved on his placing every time out. His result also helped his Trojans men's team to the gold medal — a feat they had not accomplished since the 2012/13 school year.

Jacques Saayman is a Business Administration student at SAIT.
