Brittney Thibeaux and the Olds College Broncos capped off a magical season with the school’s first-ever national championship in any sport in Quebec City. After being named the CCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Year on Wednesday, the fourth-year forward from Lake Villa, Ill. put an exclamation point on one of the most dominant seasons in CCAA basketball history. Though she ran into some foul trouble against VIU in the quarterfinal, she still posted eight points and eight rebounds in just 11 minutes of floor time. She then stepped up her game in the semifinal against Dawson College with 29 points and six rebounds in a narrow 71-70 win, then capped off the season with a 30-point, 13-rebound, four steal and three block performance in the gold medal game against tournament host Sainte-Foy on the Dynamiques home court. Thibeaux thrived when the spotlight shone brightest, and earned her selection as the most valuable player of the CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship.
