Takeisha Wang Honoured as 2017-18 ACAC Overall Female Athlete of the Year

EDMONTON, AB (April 10, 2018) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Takeisha Wang of Concordia University of Edmonton has been selected as the 2017-18 ACAC Female Athlete of the Year.

 The Concordia Thunder badminton team finished the regular season in 2nd place in the ACAC. Takeisha, a 3rd year Bachelor of Science student from Edmonton, Alberta, had an incredible year for the Thunder badminton team. Takeisha posted an impressive 11-1 record in women's singles and 8-1 in mixed doubles in four ACAC tournaments including the ACAC Championship where she captured the women's singles title. At the CCAA National Badminton Championships hosted by Concordia University of Edmonton, Takeisha had a perfect 5-0 record in the round robin and then won her two medal round games to capture the CCAA Women's Singles Gold Medal.

Takeisha has earned a CCAA medal in the two previous badminton seasons. In 2016 she earned a women's doubles bronze medal and then in 2017 a women's singles silver medal. Takeisha was able to win the women's singles gold medal on home soil in 2018. Additionally, Takeisha was recognized as the CCAA Player of the Year, ACAC Female Badminton Player of the Year, CCAA All-Canadian and CCAA Academic All-Canadian.

Special mention to the finalists considered for the award: Ricki Christopher of SAIT, Montana Romeril of St. Mary's University, Rae Sigurdson of Lakeland College, and Sam Zacharias of Briercrest College.
