EDMONTON, AB (February 18, 2019) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Takeisha Wang of Concordia University of Edmonton has been selected as the 2018-19 ACAC female badminton Player of the Year (POY).
The Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder badminton team finished the 2018-19 ACAC regular season in second place with 428 points after three tournaments. Takeisha had an outstanding season for the Thunder, the 4th year bachelor of science major managed to go a perfect 9-0 in the women's singles division and a perfect 8-0 in the mixed doubles division with her brother Desmond Wang.
Takeisha's success both on and off the court make her an excellent ambassador for the institution and the Thunder athletics department. "Takeisha continues to impress on the badminton court, putting together an undefeated season for the record books in the ACAC. Despite winning the CCAA National title in women's singles last year, she came back hungrier this season, focused and ready to compete for another banner. Making her athletic dominance even more impressive is the 4.0 GPA that she carries at the same time." Director of Athletics, Joel Mrak.
In the past three seasons Takeisha has claimed a CCAA medal. She won the women's doubles bronze in 2016, women's singles silver in 2017, and women's singles gold in 2018 on home soil. Takeisha was also proudly recognized as the 2018 CCAA Player of the Year, ACAC Female Player of the year, CCAA All-Canadian and CCAA Academic All-Canadian.
As a top contender once again, Takeisha will look to expand her medal collection at the upcoming conference championships hosted by Concordia University of Edmonton.
This prestigious award was presented to Takeisha Wang at the 2018-2019 ACAC Badminton Championship awards banquet held on February 16, 2019 at Highlands Golf Club in Edmonton, AB.
