EDMONTON, AB (February 18, 2019) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Kevin MacAlpine of Concordia University of Edmonton has been selected as the 2018-19 ACAC Badminton Coach of the Year (COY).
Kevin's is in his 10th season as head coach of the Concordia Thunder Badminton program. Previous to that, Kevin was an Assistant Coach at Concordia from 2005 to 2009. This is Kevin's third ACAC COY award, having been so honoured in 2011 and 2016, the same years he also received the nod as the CCAA National Coach of the Year.
Concordia is currently ranked 4th nationally and finished the 2018-19 ACAC regular season in second place with 428 points after three tournaments. For a second straight year the Thunder are contenders for a national championship banner.
Director of Athletics, Joel Mrak, praises Coach MacAlpine for his dedication to the student athletes and the Thunder Athletics department year in and year out, "Kevin has done an outstanding job to continue to put forward a competitive badminton program and help grow the sport in the ACAC and across Alberta. You would be hard pressed to find a more passionate ambassador and promoter of badminton. He is very deserving of this recognition and we are proud to have him leading our program."
This prestigious award was presented to Kevin MacAlpine at the 2018-2019 ACAC Badminton Championship banquet held on February 16, 2019 at Highlands Golf Club in Edmonton, AB.
