RYLEY, AB (Sept. 29, 2019) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Justin Berget of the MacEwan University Griffins has been selected as the 2019-20 ACAC Male Golfer of the Year.
Berget wrapped up a dominant nine-shot victory to claim the ACAC men's individual golf championship on Sunday at Coal Creek Golf Resort.
His rounds of 71, 70 and 73 in inclement 2-degree weather allowed him to finish under par for the championship and lead the Griffins men to second place in the team standings, good enough to qualify for the CCAA national championship.
"It was a dominant performance, no question," said Griffins head coach Jodi Campbell. "We're absolutely thrilled with how he played and the end result. He was carrying this team. The fact he could come through on the individual side like that and be rewarded was huge."
It's the second tournament win in the span of three September events for the third-year Commerce student-athlete from Spruce Grove, Alta., who also won the ACAC North Regional on Sept. 15 at Edmonton's RedTail Landing GC.
This prestigious award was presented to Justin Berget at the 2019 ACAC Golf Championship hosted by UAlberta-Augustana Sept. 27-29 in Ryley, Alta.
