St. Mary's Men's Basketball team were looking towards their first back to back wins in the 2018-19 season. However Clayton Pottinger's Red Deer College Kings needed to get back to .500 record to start the 2nd half of the ACAC regular season. This match on Saturday night was going to be a frustrating one for Coach Ruff as they could not close the gap from the 1st quarter deficit of 10 points and the 4th quarter 12 point margins.
Middle frames were even but Red Deer had an oustanding performance by Spencer Klassen who had 34 points. He was 13-19 from 2 pt area and 8-11 from 3 point country. Cordell Minniffee had 24 points in 30 minutes of playing time. He needed help from his teammates but the defense of Red Deer was too great The Lightning only had two players in double digit scoring Minniffee and Jordan Britton (13 points). Red Deer College had 5 players in double digit scoring which included Klassen. Sultan (20 points), Bakker (15 points), Szymanek (12 points) and Harper (11 points).
Kings had out rebounded Lightning 36-23. Difference in this game was from the 3 point area in which Red Deer had 17-24 comapred to Lightning 7-21
