SAIT wins Blowout in Medicine Hat to close season

With a playoff position locked up, the SAIT Trojans headed to Medicine Hat College to visit the Rattlers in the Snake Pit. The Rattlers hoped to finish the season on a positive note, but the Trojans looked to sweep the weekend and head into playoffs on a winning note. The Rattlers were able to open the scoring hitting on their first attempt of the game. the Trojans came right back to answer scoring 2 quick baskets and taking the lead. the game was tied at 5 before the Trojans hit another single from the line taking the lead. SAIT furthered their lead when Rattler standout Kieron Burgess checked out early from an injury the night before. At the midway point SAIT led 15-11 but looked to be controlling the play early. The Trojans exploded from here going on a quick 6-2 run going up 21-13 and forcing the Rattlers to take a timeout. SAIT continued to push hard taking the play to the Rattlers and extending their lead even further, 25-13. The Trojans and the Rattlers evened out the scoring in the last 2 minutes and SAIT went into the break, up 29-17.

The second quarter started out with a Rattler miss followed up by SAIT converting on second chance points. Getting stops and finishing, the Trojans were able to increase their lead in the first part of the quarter. The Rattler took a timeout early, already down 21-40 they were hemorrhaging points and quickly. The Trojans were able to double the Rattlers score up 46-23. As the half came to a close the Trojans remained up big, 58-27.

The Third quarter started with the Trojans getting to the line right away hitting both and going up even further. The Rattlers continued to battle despite being so far down, but were unable to convert with any efficiency on the offensive end. The Trojans continued to dominate up 25 with half of the quarter left. The rest of the quarter seemed to fly by as the Trojans continually built their lead putting the game well out of reach. SAIT led 92-47 after 3.

The fourth started with the teams trading baskets on the first possession for each team. The Rattlers missed and the Trojans hit extending their lead further. With the game already in hand some aspects of the game and certain player battles started to get chippier. The Trojans continued to play like they needed every point to go in and the Rattlers interest in the blowout seemed to wane. Nobody gave up by any stretch but there was a definite deflation of the crowd. The Final 5 minutes of the game seemed to drag on with fouls called at both ends when it seemed as if everyone just wanted the game to end. The game ended in a blowout the Trojans winning 113-57.
