The rematch between the SAIT Trojans and Briercrest Clippers was Saturday afternoon in Caronport. The first period saw back and forth action until Joren Patenaude scored at the 4:40 mark of the period for SAIT. Fast paced, hard hitting action kept the fans entertained. Briercrest had several power play opportunities but were unable to capitalize, however, SAIT did on their only power play of the period. The first frame ended in a 2-0 lead for the visitors. SAIT edged Briercrest in shots 15-14.
The second period was much the same as the previous. Fast paced, end to end action with a couple penalties a side. Despite a barrage of shots from the home team, SAIT did not allow a goal in the period and scored twice themselves to make it 4-0 after two periods of play. Power play opportunities were 4-3 for the Clippers. Shots were exactly the same as the first 15-14 for SAIT.
"The third period is not one to take for granted," remarked a SAIT player who began the period in the penalty box. "We remember what happened last time." It was evident that was on the Trojans' minds as they stepped up the pace in the third. Briercrest did not back down and #18 Josh Boelema broke the shut out at 3:27. SAIT answered back with three quick goals. Chad Davidson, assistant captain for the Clippers scored one more in the last minute of the game to make the final score 8-2 in the loss to the visiting Trojans. Shots on net were 14 for the visitors and 7 for the Clippers that period. Final shots were 44-35 for SAIT.
Player of the game for SAIT was #31 Kyle Dumba with 33 saves and Chad Davidson #27 with a goal for the Clippers.
