Trojans blank Broncos in home opener

CALGARY, ALTA., (Sept. 8, 2019) — The SAIT Trojans men's soccer team could not ask for a better performance in their first game of the year, Sunday afternoon.

The Trojans dominated control of the ball for the majority of the game, as the home team rolled to a 3-0 victory over the Olds College Broncos in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played at SAIT's Cohos Commons Field.

"We had a plan to come out, stay composed and just play our game. We wanted to get everyone on the ball early and settle into things," said Trojans head coach, Connor Brady. "We know that if we are able to do that, we have a lot of weapons at our disposal that we can use in a 90-minute game. The lads put in an outstanding effort."

SAIT moves to 1-0 on the season, while the Broncos fall to 1-1.

"Everyone was winning their own individual battles, and everyone was doing their individual jobs, and they were all doing it for the same cause," Brady added. "We have lots of work to do, but I'm pretty proud of the way they played today."

The Trojans received the game-winning goal when Prinex Roberts was brought down in the penalty area. Teammate Eduardo Filho took the ensuing penalty kick, and made no mistake, beating Olds keeper Ryan Murphy along inside the left post.

Rookies Antonio Hernandez and Zach Michaud scored later in the game – Hernandez's a missile from in close, Michaud's a long kick from just inside mid-field that sailed past the outstretched arms of Murphy.
