SAIT's Unrelenting Spirit Leads to Victory

It was an aggressive start to the Ambrose Lions Men's last home game of the 2019-2020 season.  SAIT played with urgency as prior to tonight, Lethbridge, Red Deer and SAIT were all tied on top of the ACAC south standings.   With SAIT being on top of the ACAC standings and Ambrose having yet to win a game this season, it could have been predicted that SAIT would control the pace of play. In the first half of the game, the Lions held their own against the Trojans as the score was 0-0 when the whistle blew. In the second half, the Trojans scored early and often both on the Ambrose net as well as accidentally on their own.  Zach Michaud scored SAIT's first goal in the 55th minute thanks to precise passing between himself, Martin Bertolesi, and Eduardo Filho.  Bernardo Rojas followed the Trojan's first goal with a skillful play of his own. As he maneuvered his way through the Ambrose defense, he cut through the middle of the box and put a strike past goaltender Matthew Stacey. In the 75th minute, Ambrose was able to tally their first goal of the game thanks to a mistake from the SAIT Trojans.  In an effort to pass it back to his own goalie, defender Bradley Atherton mistakenly put it out of reach of goalkeeper Marko Ilich and scored an Own Goal.  The Trojans bounced back quickly with goals from Yusuph Kalenga and Armando Garcia, eliminating any chance of a Lion's comeback. Player of the game recognition was awarded to Bernardo Rojas (SAIT Trojans) and Aristotle Cruz (Ambrose Lions). With this being the final home game for the Lions, the graduating Ambrose players: Matthew Stacey, Nathan Polonenko, Adrian Strandberg, Matthew Siebring and Hee Mann Shin, were thanked for their contributions to the program in a post-game ceremony. While this was the Lion's final home game, Ambrose will finish out their season with games in Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Olds, and at SAIT.
