Edmonton, AB (Oct. 24, 2019) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce that Matthew Zima from NAIT has been selected as the 2019-20 ACAC North men's soccer Player of the Year.
Matt's play this season helped lead the NAIT Ooks to an undefeated 12-0 record in the North division. Matt, a 3rd-year Steamfitter/Pipefitter apprentice student from Edmonton, AB, led the league in goal scoring this season. He had 20 goals in 12 games, including 4 game-winning goals.
NAIT Ooks men's soccer head coach Charles O'Toole had the following to say about his goal-scoring forward.
"Matt has worked really hard this year to improve his game. He has taken more of a leadership role within the team and has led with his actions both on and off the field, leading him to be named co-captain. He pushes himself and those around him which has contributed to not only his success but also that of the team. He is always putting others before himself."
Matt and his NAIT Ooks play this weekend at the 2019 ACAC men's soccer championship hosted by NAIT at Emerald Hills Pavilion in Sherwood Park. The Ooks earned a bye to Saturday's semi-final at 4 pm where they will face the winner of the quarter-final match between the King's Eagles and the Lethbridge Kodiaks. Complete schedule and results can be found on the ACAC website.
This prestigious award was presented to Matt at the 2019 ACAC Soccer Championship banquet held on October 24th at NAIT.
