SHERWOOD PARK, Alta. – The Lethbridge College Kodiaks defeated the King's Eagles 2-0 in the quarter-finals of the 2019 ACAC Men's Soccer Championship.
The wind was a significant factor in this game. It was strong enough to significantly hinder a team's ability to move the ball down the field when they were attacking against the wind. The Eagles had the wind at their back in the first half but were unable to do anything against the Kodiaks defense.
In the second half, Lethbridge took full advantage of the wind as Scooby Jetten scored right after halftime to put the Kodiaks up 1-0. Jetten then took a red card in the 73rd minute putting his team down a man.
Despite being shorthanded, the Kodiaks defense paired with the wind was too much for the Eagles as Lethbridge would not allow a goal, and score one more in the final second of the game to give them a 2-0 victory.
"I thought we played a great team game; in today's condition's I'm happy with the result," said Kodiaks head coach Sean Carey. "We just needed to get to halftime, once we did that we knew we had a good chance."
The Kodiaks will now head to the semi-final to take on the host #1 NAIT Ooks tomorrow at 4:00 pm.
