SHERWOOD PARK, Alta. – The NAIT Ooks defeated the SAIT Trojans 4-2 in the bronze medal game of the 2019 ACAC Men's Soccer Championship on Sunday afternoon.
The Ooks came out flying in this one as Isaac Ayolade and Matt Zima both scored in the first twenty minutes to give NAIT and early 2-0 lead. In the 58th minute, chaos ensued. Ayolade and Abraham Jones scored within minutes of each other. SAIT's Reijiro Suzuki then scored one minute later on a penalty kick to make the game 4-1. Armando Garcia added one more for SAIT, but that was it for the Trojans offense.
It should be noted that the game got extremely chippy down the stretch, with numerous scrums of pushing and shoving. Both teams showed sportsmanship when it was all said and done when it came to shaking hands after the game.
"The boys responded well to a disappointing result yesterday. We came out ready to play and ended the year on a positive note," said Ooks' head coach Charles O'Toole. "We overachieved a bit at times I think, but with 14 of 18 players being first years, I think we gained some valuable experience to take forward.
