Nov. 24, 2018 - What a semester it's been for Kodiaks men's volleyball.
The team capped off a perfect fall semseter for the first time in their history, dismantling the visiting Olds College Broncos (25-22, 25-19, 25-6) in straight sets on Saturday afternoon.
Coming off a straight sets victory the night before, it was clear the Kodiaks wanted to seal up the semester in quick and clean fashion.
With the Kodiaks sporting a new line-up, the hosts kicked things off in set one with a challenging 25-22 set one win. Though the Kodiaks prevailed, the Broncos did not make it an easy one as they came out determined for an upset.
Moving into the second set, the Broncos kept their focus and energy high. Yet, Lethbridge continued to influence the game offensively while making it difficult for Olds to build sustained momentum. The Kodiaks grabbed an early lead and prevented Olds from making any prolonged runs, and the hosts put themselves on the verge with a 25-19 set two win.
The Kodiaks showed no mercy in the third set and put their dominance on full display. Lethbridge raced out to a 16-1 lead and closed out the sweep with a 25-6 set three win.
Jeremiah Bohnert earned player of the game for the hosts. The first-year player was a strong asset to the Kodiaks grit and positivity throughout the weekend. Tony Albizatti added three kills and two aces for the Kodiaks, while Dax Whitehead had five kills and one ace. Carter Hansen once again led the Kodiaks with 12 kills.
Matheus Coelho recorded eleven assists for the Broncos, while Haiden Hurtig had six kills.
The Kodiaks and Broncos have both completed their fall semester schedules and will return to ACAC conference action in January.
