January 10, 2019 - Coming into the first home game of the New Year, the Kodiaks looked to continue their streak while taking a game off of their rival team, the Medicine Hat Rattlers.
In an intense first set, both competitors came out to contend for a New Year win. As for the Rattlers, Alfred Davelik maintained his teams spirits with five kills of his own.
Unfortunately for the Rattlers, Lethbridge earned the first set with a score of 25-21. Medicine Hat however, would search for a strong recovery in the second set.
As we moved into set two, the Kodiaks continued on with their forceful offensive attacks. Hansen in specific extended his kills from six to twelve, proving to be an untouchable attacker. Meanwhile, Tony Albizzati of Lethbridge reinforced the offense with five kills of his own. Edvard Nordlund of Medicine Hat attempted to counteract the Kodiaks attack with three kills, nevertheless Lethbridge won set two 25-19.
Kodiaks maintained the pressure in set three forcing the Rattlers to take a time-out to prevent a three set sweep. However, Nikola Sreckovic of the Rattlers stayed calm to ensure that his team kept their heads in the game. Sreckovic made three digs in set three and kept his attack errors to a minimum.
With the help of Kodiaks Tony Albizzati one service ace and zero attack errors, the Kodiaks remained undefeated as they swept the Rattlers in three. Lethbridge closed out set three with a score of 25-18.
With this win, the Kodiaks advance to 13-0 in the season while the Rattlers fall to 7-8. Both teams will be back in action Saturday afternoon in Medicine Hat as they cap off a home-and-home series with the Kodiaks looking to maintain their perfect season.
