Camrose, AB - The Augustana Vikings Women's Basketball team came out with a 1 point victory, of 81-80, over the visiting Concordia Thunder after an intense game.
Within the first minute and a half Thunder had a 7-0 lead, but the Vikings eventually found hold and were able to make a quick come back with the support of their home crowd. The score at the end of the first quarter was 18-13 for Augustana.
The second period was just as plagued with fouls as the first, but the Vikings were able to maintain their lead and were up 39-34 going into half time.
Expanding their lead by one more point the Vikings went into the third with a score of 59-53.
Going into the last quarter the Vikings had a slight edge but definitely nothing to get comfortable with. The Vikings had a 81-73 lead with 2 minutes left in the game when they called a time out. This seemed to only come to Concordia's advantage as they came out of the timeout scoring 7 more points putting them only one behind the Vikings. Emma van Bruinessen of the Vikings made sure to hold onto the ball at the very end to ensure Concordia could not run away with this one.
Samantha Dargis was awarded Player of the Game on the Vikings side with an outstanding 27 points. On the Concordia side the Player of the Game Award went to Morgan Dool scoring 16 points, 7 of which were in the last two minutes, and playing a strong defensive game throughout.
