Camrose, AB - The Augustana Vikings played the Lakeland Rustlers women's basketball team in a close game with a final score of 58 for Augustana, 55 for Lakeland, with both coaches feeling the pressure.
After the first period the Vikings had a lead by over double the points 22-10 perhaps feeling confident about their lead. However, in the second period the Vikings were winning by 33 to 25. While they scored 11 points in the second quarter, Lakeland was catching up, scoring 15 points.
In the third period the Rustlers picked up steam, with a score of 31 points, while the Vikings were in the lead by only 2 points. The third period saw the Vikings outscore the Rustlers by a sliver of only 1 point, bringing the score to 45 points for Augustana to 36 points for Lakeland.
In the fourth period Lakeland scored 19 points, while Augustana only scored 13. While this was excellent for Lakeland and they really came around at the end of the game, it was not enough for the gains that the Augustana women made in the first quarter that allowed them to stay on top. At the very end of the fourth period Lakeland shot a buzzer beater but missed, which would have tied the game.
The Vikings Player of the Game was Hannah Mitchell, number 15 with 9 rebounds and 13 points. On the Lakeland side, the Player of the Game Award went to Tori Dugan of Australia with 7 rebounds and 11 points.
