OLDS, Alta. - The Olds College Broncos bounced back nicely, wrapping up the 2018 portion of their schedule with an 83-76 victory over a gritty SAIT Trojans squad at the Ralph Klein Centre on Friday.
Brittney Thibeaux continued her dominance over the ACAC, leading all scorers with 33 points to go with six rebounds and three assists. Meanwhile, Kyla Adams (14 points, 10 rebounds, six assists) and Macyn Morning Bull (11 points, 17 rebounds) each posted double-doubles for the Broncos (7-2).
Melissa Woolley set the pace for the Trojans (3-5) with 17 points, seven assists, five steals and four rebounds, while Maddy Douglas added 17 points of her own.
The first quarter was open season on both sides of the ball, with the Broncos jumping out to an early 12-4 lead, only for the Trojans to claw back to within two. However, Olds College, ranked sixth in the CCAA, would the extend its lead once more, ending the first with a 33-22 advantage.
From there, the two sides settled into a tightly-contested affair, with neither side really establishing consistent momentum in the second quarter. The Broncos maintained the gap, taking a 45-35 lead into halftime.
The Trojans came out swinging in the third, as a 10-0 run over a 5:51 stretch closed the Broncos' lead to three. However, the Broncos found their footing late in the frame, taking a 56-47 lead into the fourth as they responded with a brief run of their own.
The final quarter was Thibeaux time, as the Broncos player of the game asserted herself by scoring 15 points in the final 10 minutes to push the Broncos over the finish line.
Woolley earned player of the game honours for the Trojans.
The Trojans will host the Briercrest College Clippers on Friday, November 30 at 6 p.m., while the Broncos won't take the floor again until 2019, as they visit the Ambrose University Lions on Saturday, January 5 at 6 p.m.
