Vikings keep Eagles at bay

Camrose, AB - The Augustana Women's Vikings hosted the King's Eagles in their first game of February, and this promised to be just as much of thriller as their last match up . The Vikings won a well contested game with a final score of 64-55 , with each team winning two quarters.

The first period was a close match with each team gaining small victories over the other. The Eagles ended winning the first period with a score of 17 to 15, and this promised a well fought and close game to come.The second period was just as exhilarating as the first, with the game going back and forth between the two teams. But the Eagles managed to extend their lead to 3 points with the score at 30-27 at halftime. This first half left the audience satisfied as it was highly competitive with several amazing plays on offence and defence from both teams. In the third period the Vikings were able to make a huge comeback by outscoring the Eagles by 9 points and taking a commanding 6 point lead to enter the 4th quarter, bringing the total score to 50-42.  The last quarter was a well contested affair with the Vikings winning this quarter by just one point. Both teams defended really well leading to several turnovers and stoppages. Towards the final two minutes of the game Kennedy Conn of the Eagles was able to score two back-to-back three pointers to shorten the Viking's lead, but they were unable to come out on top as the Vikings fought hard for the Victory with a score of 14-13 in the quarter. This allowed them to win the game with a final score of 64-55. From the Kings Eagles the Player of the Game was number 06, Kena Jacobson, a second year sociology major; she had four rebounds and fourteen points. From the Vikings the Player of the Game was number 5, Jessica, a second year biology major; she had eighteen points, four rebounds and six steals.
