The first period was a close match with each team gaining small victories over the other. The Rustlers ended up winning the first period with a score of 24 to 22, and this promised a well fought and close game to come with several exciting moments.
The second period was more lopsided than the first, with the Rustlers winning this quarter with a score of 26-16. This left Lakeland with a lead of 12 points at the half and they were set to blow this game wide open enroute to a victory. This quarter featured three 3-pointers by the Rustlers which helped them to take a substantial lead into the half.
The Vikings were able to win the third quarter with a score of 15-12 which cut down Rustler's lead to 9 points. A single digit deficit motivated the Vikings to keep on fighting and hopefully stage a comeback at home
The last quarter was a well contested affair with the Vikings and the Rustlers each scoring 12 points in the quarter. Both teams defended really well leading to several turnovers and stoppages.The Rustlers were able to prevent any comeback by keeping the Vikings offence at bay throughout the quarter, allowing them to win the game with a final score of 74-65. From the Lakeland Rustlers the Player of the Game was number 12, Angela Baran, a third year guard; she had two rebounds and twelve points. From the Vikings the Player of the Game was number 11, Torey Lauber, a fifth year guard; she had fourteen points, six rebounds and four steals. Torey Lauber is also graduating this semester and this was her last home game at Augustana, thank you Torey for all the great memories.
