Briercret pulls ahead of the Queens

Caronport, SK- Saturday, November 30th saw the Briercrest Clippers women's basketball team hosting the Red Deer Queens for their third matchup of the season. Briercrest went 2-0 against the Queens and was looking to add to that tally. 

Red Deer opened the scoring, getting the first basket of the game before heading into a tight quarter with the Clippers. The two teams battled closely, but when the quarter drew to a close the Clippers led by two points, up 25-23 on the Queens. The second quarter followed similarly to the first, with both teams keeping the score tight and exchanging points, finishing 52-48 for Briercrest, who had led 45-35 at one point in the quarter before Red Deer closed the gap.

However, it was in the third quarter that Briercrest began to build a solid lead, going up by eight points on Red Deer before pulling ahead to finish the third quarter 81-71. Although Red Deer continued to battle, the fourth quarter saw the Clippers fully in their groove. Red Deer began to call their timeouts as the distance in the scoring grew, using two at 98-87 and 106-89. But it was to no avail, as the Clippers were able to quench any comeback, finishing the game 107-94. 

Player of the Game for Red Deer went to number 8 Lauren Cardinal, who posted 21 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 assists. For Briercrest it went to number 23 Angenay Williams, who recorded 47 points, 8 rebounds, 6 steals, and 4 assists. Willaims commented after the game, "RDC is very competitive, the coach is building a great program. I just want to be a leader for my team because I love them and I love my coaches!" 

The two teams will not meet again in the regular season.
