Broncos Hockey excited to announce six more recruits

The Broncos hockey staff, namely head coach Chris Leeming, have been hard at work the past month looking for new recruits to push the program forward toward the pursuit of an ACAC Championship. 

The program will see quite a bit of turnover including graduating captain Cassidy Holt and assistant captains Dana Hauck, Krista Wilson and Sinja Paurat.

In part two of the introduction to the recruiting class we introduce you to six recruits from across Canada.

Here's what you need to know about these recruits:

 

 

 

 

 

Lexi Bruce: Goalie, 5' 9" 

Hometown: Sturgeon County, AB

High School: Sturgeon Composite High School

2017/18 club: Edmonton Pandas (AFHL Midget AAA)

Academic Program: Sports Business Management

Why you are excited to be a Bronco: "I am most excited to be a Bronco because it will mean I will get the chance to be a part of the close knit community at Olds while continuing to play the sport I love"

Head Coach Chris Leeming's analysis: "Joining the Bronco family as part of our goaltending tandem for the upcoming season, Lexi is a highly competitive and athletic goaltender who possesses a remarkable attitude and work ethic. Lexi's character and commitment to constant improvement embodies the definition of what it means to be a Bronco."

 

Danielle Corrigan: Forward, 5' 7"

Hometown: North Vancouver, BC

High School: Prince George Secondary School

2017/18 club: Northern Capitals (BCFMAAA)

Academic Program: Business Management

Accolades and achievements: Honor Roll in high school. Was selected as Player of the Month for January and invited to BC U-18 camp. Also helped coached in Learn to Skate Program.

Why you are excited to be a Bronco: "I am excited to be a Bronco because I'm looking for a new experience and I want improve my game to its full potential. Also, meet some great people along the way!"

Head Coach Chris Leeming's analysis: "As former captain of the Northern Capitals, Dani brings more leadership and maturity to our group that will no doubt improve the dressing room atmosphere and culture of our program. On the ice, she brings a strong hockey IQ and the versatility to play any position up front with confidence."

 

Bree Edwards: Forward, 5'9"

Hometown: Edmonton, AB

2017/18 club:  Edmonton Pandas (AFHL Midget AAA)

Academic Program: Sports Management

Accolades and achievements: Captain of hockey team for three years prior to assistant captain this past season with the Edmonton Pandas. MVP Hockey Academy Award in Grades 10, 11 and 12.

Why you are excited to be a Bronco: "New experiences, and different and new ways to develop as hockey player. Also, having the competition and new family."

Head Coach Chris Leeming's analysis: "Her game is characterized by grit and determination, which is complimented by both her speed and size. Bree served as an assistant captain on her team and is the type of player who leads by competing every day, and whose work ethic pushes her teammates to be better."

  

Brekell Otto: Forward, 5'3"

Hometown: Kelowna, BC

High School: Banff Community High School

2017/18 club: Banff Hockey Academy (CSSHL)

Academic Program: Equine Sciene

Why you are excited to be a Bronco: "I am looking forward to be a Bronco because after attending the spring training camp I was very impressed with the mentorship I received from head coach Chris Leeming and the high level of skill that the older girls presented. My goal is to pursue a career in the Equine Veterinary Medicine field. I have heard nothing but wonderful things about the Equine Science program at Olds College."

Head Coach Chris Leeming's analysis: "After a strong showing at our Spring ID camp, Brekell will be a member of the Bronco family next season. She is a player who has shown a lot of improvement over the past season as a result of her determination and work ethic, and brings that hard working attitude and style of play to our team."

 

Sarah Jarvis: Left Defense, 5' 9"

Hometown: Quesnel, BC

High School: Prince George Secondary School

2017/18 club: Northern Capitals (BCFMAAA)

Academic Program: Sports Management

Accolades and achievements: BC National Aboriginal Championship 2nd place in 2017; B.C. Major Midget Provincial Champions 2014 and 2016; Participated in B.C winter games

Why you are excited to be a Bronco: "I am excited to start my first year of College Hockey as a Bronco, for the reason of playing at a higher level of hockey while attending Olds College for Sports Management."

Head Coach Chris Leeming's analysis: "A left shot defence who has great vision, hands and playmaking ability. Sarah's poise and composure with the puck allows her to be both patient and creative, which has the potential to translate into some offence from the back end. Sarah also brings a positive attitude and level of commitment that will strengthen our team culture."

 

Abby Webster: Forward, 5' 10"

Hometown: Hay River, NWT

High School: Ecole St. Patrick High School and Prince George Secondary School

2017/18 club: Northern Capitals (BCFMAAA)

Academic Program: Sports Management

Accolades and achievements: Participated in Arctic winter games - hockey (2014-bronze, 2016-gold, 2018-silver); Canada winter games (hockey), Western Canada summer games (soccer) and Canada summer games (soccer & volleyball) in 2015. Part of 2016 Team of the Year-Sport North (Arctic Winter Games hockey team).

Why you are excited to be a Bronco: "I'm excited to be a bronco as this is a school I've wanted to go to for quite some time now, and being able to play a higher level of hockey as well as furthering my education is really exciting for me."

Head Coach Chris Leeming's analysis: "The addition of Abby to our lineup gives our team a boost in size and strength, both offensively and defensively, as her style of play creates time and space for her teammates. Furthermore, Abby strengthens our leadership core as she served as an assistant captain on her past team and aims to lead by example through determination and character."
