Broncos lose low scoring affair to league leading MacEwan

The Olds College Broncos women's hockey team lost 2-0 to the MacEwan Griffins in the "Olds College Student Appreciation" game Thursday, Oct. 24 at the Olds Sportsplex.

Shortly after the Broncos killed off a Jesse Jack penalty Jayme Doyle took a feed from Amanda Murray to put MacEwan up 1-0.

Shots after the first period were 9 for 3 for MacEwan.

The second period was uneventful until MacEwan's Mackenzie Dachuck took a boarding penalty at the 12:18. This was only the second penalty of the game and first for GMU.

Shots after the second period were 21-7 for MacEwan.

Broncos Keera Tiringer took a penalty for boarding at 4:08. The Broncos were able to kill that penalty but at 12:49 Shauna Johnson took a penalty for slashing. MacEwan returned the favour when Beth Taylor took a roughing penalty at the 10:20 to put the Broncos on their second powerplay of the game.

MacEwan took a 2-0 lead when Mackenzie Dachuck broke in and put the puck five-hole on Broncos goaltender Lexi Bruce, assists from Kennedy Davidson and Shyla Kirwer.

Player of the Game for MacEwan was Karlee Bell and the Pit Barbecue Player of the Game for the Broncos was Keera Tiringer.

Shots were 30-8 for MacEwan with Olds goalie Lexi Bruce making 28 saves and MacEwan's Sank making eight saves. MacEwan had no goals on four powerplay opportunities while Olds College was 0-2 on the powerplay.
