Broncos face set back in loss to MacEwan Griffins

The Olds College Broncos women's hockey team lost 3-0 against the MacEwan Griffins at the "Christmas Celebration" and the last home game of 2019 on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at the Olds Sportsplex. 

An early goal in the first period was scored at 3:44 by the MacEwan Griffins Jaime Erickson. Griffin's second goal was again unassisted and scored at 8:37 by Chantal Ricker. Broncos penalty sent Keera Tiringer to the box for roughing at 11:43. MacEwan penalty to number 24, Jamie Erickson for interference at 14:21. 

Shots in the first period were 11-2 for the MacEwan Griffins. 

The second period started with an Olds penalty at 0:44 seconds awarded to Sarah Jarvis for slashing. Jarvis received her second penalty of the night at 6:27 for slashing. Griffins third goal at 8:39 was scored by Carley Jewell and assisted by number 33, Shyla Jans. Penalty at 13:07 for MacEwan's number 27, Breanna Golosky for body contact. Griffins penalty again at 17:46 for Jillian MacWilliam for body contact. 

Total shots at the end of the second period were 17-7 for the Griffins. Broncos with 5 shots and Griffins with 6 shots in the second twenty minutes.  

Third period only saw two penalties, the first was a Broncos penalty for Mairyn Tucker at 14:05 for tripping. The second penalty for MacEwan's Morgan Casson for unsportsmanlike conduct at 18:48.

Shots in the third period were: 30-9 for the MacEwan University Griffins. 

Player of the Game for the MacEwan Griffins was Jaime Erickson and the Pit Barbecue Player of the Game for the Olds College Broncos was Sarah Jarvis.

The MacEwan Griffins took an early lead in the first period over the Broncos scoring two of their three goals with 11 shots on net.. Broncos had 5 shots on Griffins Natalie Bender, but weren't able to make anything of it in the second period. Griffins third goal of the night was scored by Jewell and assisted by Jans also in the second period. The third period was quiet with two penalties and the total shots for the game were 30-9 for the Griffins.  

The Broncos will be back again in the New Year to take on the SAIT Trojans on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 7:00pm.
