The Olds College Broncos women's hockey team lost against the Grant MacEwan Griffins at the "Make Some Noise for Mental Health" game on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at the Olds Sportsplex.
The first period started with a goal at 15:19 by Grant MacEwan's number 28, Shyla Kirwer, assisted by Karlie Bell and Mackenzie Dachuk. The Griffins follow up goal was scored at 17:02 by 33, Shyla Jans assisted by Carley Jewell and Jillian MacWilliam. Giffins third goal was scored at 19:58 unassisted by Karlie Bell.
Shots at the end of the first period were 11 for the Griffins and 9 for the Broncos, with the Griffins leading 3-0.
The second period started with a goalie change for the Broncos, number 33, Tori Eilers entered the game. At 2:10, Berkell Otto from the Broncos was sent to the box with a tripping penalty. After a strong kill the Broncos, number 17, Fiona Milligan headed to the box for an interference penalty. At 7:35 Broncos number 27, Bree Edwards found herself alone in the Griffins end, only to have Griffins goalie, Natalie Bender come up with a big save holding a strong 3-0 lead. Eilers held off fourteen shots to keep it a three goal game and held the Broncos in a fighting position.
Shots at the end of the second was 14 for the Griffins bringing their game total to 25 and 7 for the Broncos bringing their game total of 16.
The Broncos first goal of the night was scored by number 4, Kassidy Gual assisted number 12, Jessie Jack and 27, Bree Edwards for the Broncos at 4:02. Penalty for Broncos number 6, Danica Dahlin at 4:73 for a hit to the head and a double minor. Broncos penalty for number 24, Brynne Doerksen at 9:51 for butt-ending. Time out for the Broncos at 17:22.
Final shots of the night 40 for the Griffins and 21 for the Broncos. Eilers held strong in net throughout her forty minutes of play. Ending the game with a loss for the Broncos 3-1.
Player of the Game for the Grant MacEwan Griffins was number 15 , Karlie Bell and the Pit Barbecue Player of the Game for the Olds College Broncos was number 27, Bree Edwards.
MacEwan took an early lead, scoring all three of their goals within a five minute span of the first period. The Broncos, determined to come back, worked hard in the second, and made a change in net, seeing Victoria Eilers take the ice. The score stayed 3-0 for the second period. The Broncos scored their first goal of the night early in the third, while Eilers held the Griffins at three goals and saw 29 shots over the night.
