CALGARY, ALTA., (Oct. 27, 2018) - The SAIT Trojans women's soccer team last played for Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) gold in the fall of 2002, winning the school's lone title. Sixteen years later, they hope history will repeat itself.
The Trojans advanced to the ACAC Women's Soccer Championship final with their 3-0 win over the Lethbridge College Kodiaks in Saturday morning's semifinal game played at SAIT's Cohos Commons Field.
Despite controlling the early part of the game, the Trojans could not find a way to beat Kodiaks keeper Brittany Klein.
SAIT finally broke the scoreless tie when Rachelle LaBranche scored in the 38th minute to send the teams into the half with the Trojans leading 1-0.
The Trojans added two more in the second half - one off a penalty kick by Mataya Blakney, and another from Deanna Kuan off a mishandled ball by Klein.
Blakney was named her team's Player of the Game. Lethbridge College's honour went to Jasmin Salmon.
