NAIT scores early, punches ticket to ACAC championship final

CALGARY, ALTA., (Oct. 27, 2018) - Kennedy Hennig scored in the third minute of the game, and that's all her NAIT Ooks needed.

The Ooks will play in their ninth-straight Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Soccer Championship final after beating Edmonton rival Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder 1-0 in their semifinal game played at SAIT's Cohos Commons Field on Saturday afternoon.

NAIT will now meet the host SAIT Trojans in Sunday's championship final at 2pm at Cohos Commons Field. SAIT will be looking for their first title since 2002.

NAIT looked as if they were going to have their way in the game when Hennig scored just minutes in. Several more chances came early on, but the Ooks could not find a way to beat Thunder keeper Selina Verkland.

Concordia withstood the early onslaught and found a way to put some offensive pressure on the Ooks in the second half, but could not do enough to secure the equalizer.

The Thunder will move to the event's bronze medal game Sunday morning against the Lethbridge College Kodiaks, who fell to SAIT 3-0 earlier on Saturday.

Hennig was named her team's Player of the Game. Verkland took the honour for Concordia.
