SHERWOOD PARK, Alta. – The Concordia Thunder defeated the Lethbridge College Kodiaks 1-0 in extra time on Saturday afternoon in the semi-finals of the 2019 ACAC Women's Soccer Championship.
Despite several chances, both teams were unable to generate any goals in regulation time. It wasn't until the 99th minute of play that the 0-0 tie was broken. Rebecca Leavell sent a cross towards the net that deflected off of a Kodiaks defender into the net, giving the Thunder a 1-0 lead.
The wind was once again a significant factor forcing teams to play a simplified game. "We always have the strategy to go at teams. In these tough conditions, we just need to simplify our game a bit," said Thunder coach Franco Imbrogno.
The Thunder will now take on the NAIT Ooks in an all north conference championship game tomorrow at 6:30 pm.
