The Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves rallied from a one-set deficit to beat the SAIT Trojans in five-sets, 25-23, 16-25, 16-25, 25-15, 15-7 in the first game of the Alberta Colleges Athletics Women's Volleyball Championship at Lakeland College on Thursday afternoon.
This meeting was the second time in as many years the two teams met in the ACAC championship. Last year, the Wolves defeated the Trojans 3-1 in the bronze-medal game in Red Deer.
The Wolves are attempting to win their first championship since they grabbed gold in the 2004-05 season.
The Wolves will face the Red Deer College Queens in one of two semifinal matches on Friday night. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
The Trojans will face the NAIT Ooks in the consolation round on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.
Outside hitter Megan Koch led the way for the Wolves (1-0) with 18 kills while teammate Emily Groenenboom chipped in with 17 kills.
Calgary native Megan Brennan led the Trojans (0-1) with seven kills while Erin Neufeldt also added seven kills.
Groenenboom was voted player of the game for the home-team Wolves and Stephanie Kirkland was voted player of the game for the Trojans.
