The SAIT Trojans journeyed south down the Number One to face off with the Medicine Hat College Rattlers in the Snake Pit. The first game in the home and home both teams hoped to gain a decisive edge in the series. With SAIT in second in the ACAC south, Medicine Hat hoped to make up some ground on a playoff position. The first set started with both teams trading serves and side-outs. Nobody gaining any advantage early. Digs from both sides saw ineffective attacks with both teams able to counter. With a big kill coming from Trojan Irina Korovina, Medicine Hat answered right back with a Mckenzie Griffith kill. Tied at 7 Both teams worked hard to gain an edge. The Trojans were the first to find one and break through. Scoring 4 straight, SAIT jumped out to a 11-7 lead. Seeing this, The Rattlers bench wisely used their first timeout in an attempt to swing momentum back to the home side. Coming off the break, the Ratters stalled the Trojan attack with a big block. The rattlers chipped away at the Trojan Lead as the score continued to slowly climb. SAIT maintained their slim cushion up by 2, 15-13. The game continued to progress as teams continued to swap points as the Trojans maintained their advantage. After another 2 points, SAIT regained their 4 point advantage late. Down 20-16 the Rattlers burned their second timeout. Coming out of the Timeout the Rattlers continued to struggle as SAIT dominated the Last 5 points finishing the Rattlers off 25-17 taking the first set. The Medicine Hat side did not look into the game at all at the end of the first set, this would need to change if they had any hope of winning the match.
The second set started with the Trojan scoring the first 2 points before a Rattler Block got them on the board. Sloppy defense and attacking from the home side saw them quickly slide into a hole. They were able to gain some momentum and start to climb back into the set eventually levelling the score. Brooke Christie's serving and some great play from Meagan Hoeber saw the Rattlers start to change the narrative. The Trojans did not roll over though. Staying right with the Rattlers never getting more than 3 behind. In the middle of the set, Medicine hat held a 15-12 lead over the visiting Trojans. After another run, the Rattlers were able to increase their lead to 5, 18-13. This lead saw the Trojans take their first timeout. SAIT scored 3 straight coming out of the timeout cutting into the Medicine Hat lead. This quick momentum shift had the Rattlers bench scrambling and calling a timeout of their own. This did not do the trick as the Rattlers allowed the Trojans to tie the match at 18. With the Set tied, teams traded side-outs as the score crept up to 20 each. 2 close calls going against the Rattlers saw the Trojans again take a 2 point lead late into the second set. Another quick SAIT kill and the Trojans were close to closing out a set in which they trailed for the majority. This saw the Rattlers bench quick to call another timeout. The Rattlers scored 2 straight out of the timeout and threatened to tie the set. A point from SAIT saw them serving for game point, closing out the second set 25-22 taking a 2 sets to none lead.
Knowing a win would bump them up in the standings the home side had a spirited meeting between sets. Medicine Hat needed this set to extend the match, and looked to come out hard. This was quickly squashed by the Trojans who scored 2 straight again to open the set. The SAIT offense had come out firing with some hard kills. This offense was not to be outshone by their defense who was digging every rattler attack. Unforced errors from both sides saw sloppy play resulting in points for the opposition. The Rattlers were the beneficiary of a few Trojan errors allowing them back into the set. With the set tied at 7, SAIT again took control with 3 straight points. With a 2 point cushion, the Trojans were satisfied trading side-outs with Medicine Hat. A big Kill from Rattler Captain Amber Stigter saw the crowd erupt and the Rattlers start to get back into the match. As the score was almost even, SAIT took over again regaining their 2 point buffer. The Rattlers could not seem to pass up any Trojan attack, while SAIT was keeping everything in play. SAIT continued to score at will whenever the Rattlers formed any sort of momentum. Nearing the end of the set each point becoming more important. Medicine Hat again had a close call go against them killing any momentum they had left. This momentum Carried the Trojans late into the set. Up 23-17 the Trojans had a handle on the set. Easily closing out the match the trojans claimed the third set 25-18 and emerged with a straight sets victory.
