Trojans tag Broncos in straight sets

OLDS, Alta. - The SAIT Trojans controlled proceedings from start to finish en route to a straight-sets victory over the Olds College Broncos at the Ralph Klein Centre on Friday.

Simran Dhami and Taylor Ellis paced the Trojans (9-4) with seven kills apiece, while Jadyn Leong had six kills and 12 digs, and Anika Dyck finished with five kills and 15 digs.

For the Broncos (1-12), Megan Gleddie led the way with five kills and four digs, while Emily Zaleschuk had four kills and 10 digs. Karley Dieken also finished with four kills for Olds College, adding three digs as well.

Olds College got off to a good start in the opening set, taking an early 6-4 lead. However, the Trojans gradually asserted themselves as the set progressed, cruising to a 25-14 victory.

The second set followed a similar formula, though the Trojans maintained control throughout en route to another 25-14 win.

Olds College showed more fight in the third set, though SAIT pushed through to wrap up the match with a 25-18 victory.

Dhami was named the player of the game for the Trojans, while Natalya Hauser (seven assists, three digs) took the award for Olds College.

The Trojans and Broncos will wrap up the first half of their season in Calgary on Saturday at 6 p.m.
