Defending Champions fall in 5 setter

Fans in the Den were treated to another amazing game!  Very little differentiated between these two outstanding teams.  Both were led by incredible setters in Rae Sigurdson and Ashley Erickson, who were awarded with the Player of the Game for their respective team.  Both first sets could have gone either way with both going into extra points.  The 3rd set, Lakeland appeared to find another gear as they limited their attack errors to only 2 while still having 10 kills.

They served tough all night but in the 3rd set they really put the pressure on Briercrest, tallying 4 service errors and many more poor passes forcing Briercrest to play out of system.

Lakeland nearly closed out the game in the 4th as it the set went back and forth right to the end, where ultimately Briercrest was able to hold onto the 2 point lead they had managed to squeak out through the set.

In the 5th set, Briercrest played loose and free and was able to get off to a quick start after the technical timeout, going up 11-7.  While Garner was Erickson's primary target and had an amazing 29 kills, Reece Harder had a few clutch kills to help spread out their offence.

With their win, Briercrest qualifies for the CCAA National Championships and will play the Kings Eagles for the ACAC Championship at 3:30pm tomorrow.
