Rattlers win big at home over Broncos

The Olds College Broncos headed into the Snake Pit to take on the Medicine Hat College Rattlers in the first half of a weekend series. The 2-10 Broncos hoped to start the second half stronger than the first, and the home Rattlers hoped to build on a strong end to the first half of the season. The Rattlers started by opening up a quick 4-2 lead with the help of a Megan Hoeber ace. The Broncos battled back with 2 errors on serve receive from the home side before regaining the serve. From here they took 4 straight points to take a 9-4 lead. A Brooke Christie Block for the Rattlers added another point before the Broncos gained the serve. The teams traded side-outs as the set moved past the mid point. The Rattlers held on to a large lead up 15-10 but the Broncos would not give up, matching the Rattlers with side-outs. The Broncos took a timeout down 20-15 hoping to get a quick burst to tie the set late. Coming out of the break the Broncos came up with a well executed play in two straight to narrow the gap. After a net call on the Setter, the Rattlers took their first timeout only up 2. The Rattlers came out with a quick point to regain a bigger advantage. Olds answered with a quick point but quickly missed their serve to give the Rattlers back the ball who scored again taking a 24-19 lead. the Broncos were able to create a side out before a Sarah Singular Kill finished the first set with the Rattlers winning 25-20.

The Rattlers started off the second set with another quick two points to jump out to another good start. The were able to add one more before the broncos could answer putting their first point on the board. The Rattlers continued to build their lead, up 6-2 before either team was settled in. The Broncos woke up quick rattling off 4 straight to tie the second set at 6 before the Rattlers could respond. Quickly scoring again off a Dryden Gris Block, the Rattlers were able to re establish their advantage. Medicine Hat quickly padded their lead, up 12-6 in the blink of an eye the Rattlers had a hold on the set. This forced the visiting Broncos to burn an early timeout. Olds was able to force a side-out on the Rattlers who responded with 4 straight, going up 16-8. With a firm control from the home-side, the Broncos still played every point to the end and were able to start to slowly chip away at the Rattlers lead. Although they were able to score, the Rattlers continued to score at will and re established their lead up 21-13. This forced the Broncos to take their second timeout. The Rattlers continued to cruise in the second, taking it 25-14 and a 2 sets to 0 lead.

The third set started with the teams Trading Side-outs before the Rattlers again scored two straight gaining an early advantage again. This time the Broncos stayed within striking distance early until a Brooke Christie ace put the Rattlers up 8-4. They backed it up with a block for another quick point and a 5 point lead. Medicine Hat continued to score going up 11-4 creating a big hole for Olds to dig out of. With this they called a timeout to stem the bleeding, but Brooke Christie served another ace straight out of the break for another Rattler point. The Rattlers continued to put up points while the Broncos did their best to answer on occasion. The Rattlers opened the door slightly with a few errors but were quickly able to rite the ship and score again quickly. At 16-8, The Rattlers held a firm control of the game and started to bring in a few bench players to finish off the set. the Rattlers cruised to a 3 sets victory taking the final set 25-14
