Sophia Nowicki Named ACAC 2019-20 Cross Country Runner of the Year Sponsored by Running Room

Calgary, AB, Oct. 26, 2019 – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is proud to announce Sophia Nowicki of the Lethbridge College Kodiaks has been named the ACAC Women's Runner of the Year.

Sophia Nowicki, a 3rd year Nursing student-athlete, repeated as the individual ACAC women's gold medalist well also helping her team repeat as the team gold medalists at the 2019 ACAC Cross Country championships. Nowicki is currently the reigning CCAA national champion as well. For the second straight season, Nowicki went undefeated in ACAC events and also finished in the top 20 of an NCAA division one event in 2019. 

"Sophia's commitment to training and leading her team at every event is unmatched," says Head Coach Simon Schaerz. "Sophia has truly worked her way to be the defending and undefeated ACAC champion." 

"Another incredible year for Sophia and the Kodiaks," says Todd Caughlin, Manager of Athletics & Recreation Services. "Sophia is a complete Kodiaks student-athlete. Her commitment to being the best she can be shows every day!"

Sophia received the award on Sat. Oct 26th, 2019 at the ACAC Cross Country Conference Championship Banquet held at SAIT.
