William Akio Honoured as the 2016-17 ACAC Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Year
Medicine Hat, October. 27, 2016 – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce that SAIT Trojans men's soccer player, William Akio, has been named the ACAC's Men's Soccer Rookie of the Year.
Akio, from Nairobi, Kenya, made an immediate impression on the Trojans and the league, by leading SAIT in scoring this season with six goals in nine games. His blazing speed and deft touch made him one of the most dangerous players to defend, with him often gaining the upper hand in one-on-one situations. In his team's two most important games of the season, Akio scored in each of them to help his Trojans to victory, and earn the South Division's No. 1 seed going into the ACAC Men's Soccer Championship.
Akio showed a great ability to take what was implemented in practice and apply that in game situations throughout the season. He plays with both maturity and a youthful spirit, and we are very proud of his accomplishments this year.
