Jacques Saayman earns 2016-17 ACAC Cross-Country Running Male Runner & Rookie of the Year
CALGARY, Nov. 2 2016 — Jacques Saayman's gold medals at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Cross-Country Running Championships were not the only rewards the first-year runner earned.
His individual and team gold medals helped the Fort McMurray, Alta., product also become the ACAC's Cross-Country Running Male Runner and Rookie of the Year.
Saayman (1st year, Fort McMurray, Alta., Business Administration) improved his placing in every race he competed in this season — finishing fourth, then third and then second in the three Grand Prix events he took part in.
At the ACAC Championships in Grande Prairie, Alta., he continued that trend by winning gold in the 8-kilometre race with a time of 27:49 (mins:sec).
He was also an integral part of the Trojans men's team that grabbed their first gold medal since the 2012/13 season.
It is the first time in SAIT Trojans cross-country running history that a runner, male or female, has earned either Player or Rookie of the Year honours.
By finishing amongst the first seven runners at the championships, Saayman also earned ACAC All-Conference honours.
