2021-22 ACAC Men's Indoor Track Runner of the Year

Edmonton, AB (March 31, 2022) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Leonard Chesoo of the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder has been selected as the 2021-22 ACAC Men’s Indoor Track Runner of the Year. 

After a phenomenal outdoor Cross-Country running seasons where Chesoo went on to claim a national title, he kept his dominance going onto the indoor track. In the first meet of the indoor season, Chesoo claimed gold in the 1500m event and silver in the 3000m event, before anchoring the Concordia 4x400 team to a gold medal. In the second meet, Chesoo claimed the 3000m gold, 600m gold, and led the 4x400 relay team to a silver medal. When the conference championships came around, Chesoo found another gear, claiming four gold medals in the 3000m, 1500m, 1000m, and 600m. His times also helped Concordia’s men’s team finish second place in the overall standings at the conference championships.

“Through three seasons, Leonard continues to proudly represent the Thunder and show his dominance on the track” commented Concordia Interim Director of Athletics & Recreation, Nathaniel MacLellan. “He continues to solidify his legacy as one of the all-time greatest runners in the ACAC and one of the greatest athletes to represent the Thunder in our history. Leonard deserves all the recognition he gets. Congratulations on this award, Leonard!”

A back-to-back national champion outdoors in Cross-Country, Leonard is in his third year representing Concordia on the Cross-Country and Indoor Track team. Coming out of Iten, Kenya, Chesoo is in his fourth year of his Bachelor of Science degree.

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2022 ACAC Indoor Track Championship hosted by Concordia University of Edmonton in Edmonton, Alberta.
