2022-23 ACAC Men's Soccer Players of the Year

Edmonton, AB (October 27, 2022) –

North Player of the Year:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Rodane Cato of the NAIT Ooks has been selected as the 2021-22 ACAC Men’s Soccer North Player of the Year. 

Rodane Cato had an outstanding season with the NAIT Ooks helping them to an 11-0-1 record. Cato, the second-year Chemical Engineering Technology student from Hellshire, St. Catherine, was a force to be reckoned with this season. He garnered an impressive three goals and six assists, leading him to amass ten points this season. Cato started all eleven regular season games and was an offensive threat with a .200 shot percentage on the season.

"Rodane is incredibly deserving of this honour. In a game, in the gym, or on the training ground, Rodane is laser-focused on his development and adheres to a self-discipline and motivation that excites any coach. This hunger for excellence is accompanied by a humbleness and respectful demeanor that makes him well-liked by his teammates and accepting of any feedback that the coaching staff offers," said NAIT Ooks Head Coach Jeff Paulus.

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2022 ACAC Women’s Soccer Championship hosted by Lethbridge College in Lethbridge, Alta. 

 

South Player of the Year:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Senay Haile of the SAIT Trojans has been selected as the 2022-23 ACAC Men’s Soccer South Division Player of the Year. 

The second-year forward from Calgary led the ACAC’s South Division with 11 goals in 10 games played this season, as he helped his Trojans to a division-best 9-0-1 record. He went three straight games in which he scored twice, notching the feat on Sept. 17 against Medicine Hat College, Sept. 18 against Lethbridge College and Sept. 25 against Ambrose University.

SAIT players have won the South Division Player of the Year Award in four of the last five seasons. Eduardo Filho won it in 2021, while Dean Northover went back-to-back in 2017 and 2018.

“Senay had a very successful first season with us last year, but to see the strides he has made this season has been nothing short of impressive,” said Wade Kolmel, SAIT’s Director of Athletics and Recreation. “He is a quiet leader, who lets his hard work on and off the field do the talking for him. We congratulate him on this well-deserved award.” 

Senay Haile is a second-year Business Administration student at SAIT.

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2022 ACAC Women’s Soccer Championship hosted by Lethbridge College in Raymond, AB.
