2022-2023 ACAC Men's Overall Athlete of the Year

Edmonton, AB (March 31, 2023) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Karym Coleman of the Briercrest Clippers Men's Volleyball team has been selected as the 2022-2023 ACAC Men’s Overall Athlete of the Year. This prestigious award is sponsored by Konica Minolta.

Coleman, hailing from Belize City and also a member of his home country’s National Team, proved to be a dominant force on the volleyball court during the 2022-2023 season. He led the entire ACAC in points and points per game, finishing the regular season with over 100 more kills than any other player in the conference. This outstanding performance earned him a spot on the ACAC All-Conference team.

At the post-season, the 6' 5" outside hitter elevated his game even further, leading the Clippers to their second-ever ACAC Men’s Volleyball Championship. Coleman’s 88 kills in the three matches earned him MVP honors of the tournament and propelled his team to ACAC Gold.

Coleman's strong performance continued at the CCAA National Championship, where he was named a First-Team All-Star and helped his team secure a third-place finish in the country. His incredible season also earned him his third CCAA All-Canadian honor in his post-secondary career.

Briercrest Athletic Director, Stan Peters, lauded Coleman’s contribution to the team and community, saying: “We are thrilled that Karym is being recognized as the 2023 ACAC Male Athlete of the Year. He had a fantastic year that ended with an amazing performance at the ACAC Men’s Volleyball Championships, propelling the team to win the gold medal and qualify for the CCAA National Championships, where they earned a bronze medal. He also completed his BA degree this past December and was accepted into the Leadership and Management program in our Seminary where he is now working on his master’s degree. Karym continued to volunteer at the Caronport elementary school -- he is a great representative of Briercrest and the ACAC.”

Aside from his achievements on the court, Karym is also committed to serving his community. He dedicates time in the summers to coach young athletes at the Briercrest Summer Volleyball Camps and works with young students at the local Caronport Elementary School.

Coleman was honored with this award at the 2023 Briercrest Athletics Awards Night in Caronport, SK, on March 29th, 2023.
