2022-2023 ACAC Men's Overall Rookie of the Year

Edmonton, AB (April 13, 2023) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Cooper Williams of the Lethbridge Kodiaks Men's Cross-Country and Indoor Track team has been selected as the 2022-2023 ACAC Men’s Overall Rookie of the Year. This prestigious award is sponsored by Vereburn Medical Supply.

Williams had an impressive debut season with the Kodiaks, competing in both cross-country and indoor track. At the ACAC cross-country championships, he finished seventh with a time of 27:57, contributing to the team's bronze medal. He was named to the ACAC cross-country All-Conference team and went on to finish 12th at the CCAA Nationals with an improved time of 26:40.

In indoor track, Williams set a new college record for the men's 3000m event at the first Grand Prix with a time of 8:56.15. He then broke his own record with a time of 8:48.50 at the second Grand Prix. At the ACAC Championships, he was part of the top four runners in the men's 1500m event, and his contribution of 18 points helped the team achieve an 83-point victory. He was named to the ACAC indoor track All-Conference team and earned Rookie of the Year honors.

Kodiaks Athletics Director Todd Caughlin expressed his pride in Williams' achievements, including his CCAA Academic All-Canadian award.

"To be recognized for not only Cooper's work on the course and the track in 22-23 but also earning a CCAA Academic All-Canadian award in his rookie year is outstanding," Caughlin said. "With the level of elite student athletes nominated for this recognition by the conference and for Cooper to be selected as the overall Rookie of the year, we could not be more proud that he is a Kodiak!"

Williams, who hails from Cardston, is currently enrolled in the Wind Turbine Technician program. The award will be presented at the Kodiaks Athletics Awards night at Lethbridge College on April 13, 2023.
