Colby Nemeth, of the Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Kings Volleyball team, has received special recognition for his impact within his team, sport and league. Nemeth, a fourth-year power hitter, has been named the 2024/2025 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men’s Player of the Year from all 10 sports within the league.

This season, Nemeth played an integral role in helping the Kings win their 21st ACAC gold medal and 14th Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Volleyball National Championship.

“Colby had an outstanding season and this recognition as ACAC Men’s Player of the Year is extremely well-deserved. He was dominant in the ACAC all season long and continued to impress when it mattered the most at both the ACAC and CCAA Championships,” says Aaron Schulha, Kings Volleyball Head Coach and 2024/2025 ACAC and CCAA Men’s Volleyball Coach of the Year. “His contributions to the team and what we were able to accomplish this year cannot be understated. It was a pleasure to watch him compete this season.”

Red Deer’s Nemeth helped to guide the RDP Kings to first place in the ACAC Men’s Volleyball South Division (18-1) during the regular season. He ranked first in ACAC Men’s Volleyball with 302 kills and 4.65 kills per set. The talented six-foot-five student-athlete also placed fourth in the league with 0.54 service aces per set. Nemeth contributed an impressive 364.5 points for the Kings throughout the regular season (5.6 points per set) while achieving an efficient 0.455 hitting percentage. Nemeth, a Bachelor of Commerce student, also recorded 75 digs, 35 service aces, 27 blocks and 10 assists.

At the ACAC Championship, Nemeth was outstanding, helping the RDP Kings win three straight matches to earn gold in Lloydminster. In 10 sets, he recorded 37 kills (3.7 kills per set) and an impressive 0.452 hitting percentage, ranking among the top ACAC offensive producers in the playoffs. He was also acknowledged as the 2024/2025 ACAC Men’s Volleyball South Player of the Year, an ACAC Men’s Volleyball Championship All-Star and a member of the South All-Conference team.

Nemeth continued to showcase his elite talent at the CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship in Manitoba. The Kings rolled past all three opponents in straight sets to solidify national gold. In nine sets, Nemeth accumulated a total of 34 kills (3.8 kills per set). He was named the CCAA Championship MVP and a
CCAA All-Canadian.

In addition, Nemeth was honoured as the Red Deer Bottling RDP Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year at the Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics Awards held April 8.
