Safe Sport Reporting
Edmonton, AB - As a conference operating within provincially supported post-secondary athletics, the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is mandated to maintain an independent third-party complaint process. The ACAC has agreed with the Alberta Sport Leadership Association and its contracted independent third-party adjudicators (ALIAS) to manage all complaints on the ACAC's behalf. This process is supported through provincial funding.
These processes and policies apply to all ACAC participants, including student-athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, administrators, employees, contractors, and member institutions. The term "participant" includes individuals representing ACAC member institutions in any ACAC-sanctioned sport or activity, as well as individuals involved in ACAC programs and events. This also includes parents/guardians of participants under the age of majority. Additional information and applicable policies can be found on the ACAC website under the "Reporting a Complaint" section.
What happens when you click "Report a Complaint"?
A "Report a Complaint" button and link are available on the ACAC website. By clicking this button, you will be directed to the Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism (ABSSCM), administered by ALIAS, where you will complete an online complaint form. The complainant will be contacted within 48 working hours. A determination regarding whether the complaint is receivable is typically made within 10 business days, though timelines may vary depending on the availability of the involved parties.
ALIAS case managers are experienced professionals who address maltreatment concerns and operate independently of the ACAC. They are knowledgeable in safe sport policies and are qualified to manage and assess complaints fairly and impartially.
The Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism does not address matters related to team selection, coaching appointments, event sanctions, game or misconduct reports, playing time, or other administrative concerns. These matters should be directed to the appropriate ACAC member institution or handled in accordance with ACAC policies and procedures.
If you are unsure whether your concern constitutes maltreatment, you are encouraged to review the Alberta Universal Code of Conduct (AB UCC), as well as relevant ACAC conduct and disciplinary policies available on the ACAC website. The ACAC adheres to the AB UCC to guide the conference, its members, and participants in fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive sport environment.
All participants share a responsibility to contribute to a safe sport environment. Any reports of maltreatment brought to the attention of ACAC staff or governance bodies will be directed to ALIAS through the "Report a Complaint" process.
By implementing this independent complaint mechanism, the ACAC reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding its participants and ensuring a safe and positive environment across all programs, activities, and events.
