ACAC Badminton Tournament #2 Recap

Calgary, AB (November 16, 2025) – The second ACAC Badminton Tournament of the 2025–2026 season was hosted by the SAIT Trojans at the Synergy Indoor Sports Center in Calgary. The event brought together top collegiate competitors from across the conference, featuring strong showings from the NAIT Ooks, TKU Eagles, CUE Thunder, Burman University Bobcats, and the host SAIT Trojans. The tournament delivered another day of exciting rallies and high-level play as athletes continued to build momentum early in the season.

Men's Singles

In Men's Singles, TKU's Mahdi Ahmadi secured back-to-back tournament titles, defeating Mono Suttinon (SAIT) in a competitive three-game final, 21-12, 14-21, 21-13. Ahmadi's shot-making and late-match composure proved decisive. Vincent Nguyen (TKU) claimed bronze with a 21-14, 21-14 victory over Harshit Saini (SAIT), giving the Eagles another strong result in the singles field.

Women's Singles

The Women's Singles category once again saw a standout performance from TKU, as Melissa Roque battled back from a one-game deficit to defeat Khushi Vaniya (NAIT) 18-21, 21-9, 21-16 and earn her second straight gold. SAIT's Emma Grabowski delivered a gritty three-game performance in the bronze medal match, outlasting Emma Tran (CUE) 21-13, 24-26, 21-15 to secure a podium finish for the Trojans.

Men's Doubles

The Men's Doubles final showcased fast, physical badminton from both sides, with NAIT's Ethan Lee & Caelen Mah rallying to defeat Raphael Motel & Jonathan Su (CUE) 20-22, 21-18, 21-17 to capture the gold. NAIT also claimed bronze, as Bryon Tung & Matthew Wong topped Vivek Kodi & Vincent Nguyen (TKU) 24-22, 21-13, rounding out a strong doubles performance for the Ooks.

Women's Doubles

SAIT earned its first tournament gold of the day in Women's Doubles, where Emma Grabowski & Archelle Ouanao overcame NAIT's Rachel Chan & Mataia Wong in a hard-fought match, 17-21, 21-9, 21-18. NAIT secured another podium finish with Sasha Iastreb & Samantha Tran, who defeated Christelle Arcaina & Sienna Pricca (SAIT) 21-14, 16-21, 21-17 to earn bronze.

Mixed Doubles

TKU swept the top spot in Mixed Doubles, as the powerhouse tandem of Mahdi Ahmadi & Melissa Roque dominated the final with a 21-8, 21-7 win over Raphael Motel & Prabhleen Kaur (CUE). NAIT rounded out the podium with a strong performance from Matthew Wong & Khushi Vaniya, who earned bronze with a 21-10, 21-14 victory over teammates Om Patel & Sasha Iastreb.

Tournament #2 delivered another exciting showcase of ACAC badminton talent, with TKU continuing to lead in singles play, NAIT showing exceptional depth in doubles, and SAIT earning key podium finishes on home court.
