Team Rattlers Sweep ACAC Golf Championships

RED DEER, AB – It was another a warm sunny day at Alberta Springs Golf Resort in Red Deer, AB however, some high winds added an element of challenge for the ACAC golfers during the final round of the 2021 ACAC Golf Championships.

In the women's individual competition Thunder's Kennedy Turcotte had another dominant round shooting an 81(+9) on the day and +15 through three rounds to earn the ACAC Women's Golf Championship. Earning the silver medal was Dryden Gris of the Medicine Hat Rattlers (+83) and Delaney Ross of the Portage Voyageurs who would claim the bronze medal, edging Janey Wilson of the SAIT Trojans by only four strokes.

The Rattlers owned the podium in the men's individual competition as rookie golfer Jayden Dudas shot a 70 (-2) on the day and an incredible -3 through three rounds of play to earn the ACAC Men's Golf Championship. Only three shots back was teammate Colby Friedrich who remained at even par to claim the ACAC silver medal. Rattlers Chase Broderson and Trojans Brodie Shields-Tyler shared the bronze medal after shooting +5 overall.

The MHC Rattlers stood on top of the podium once again to win the ACAC Women's Team Championship after shooting a combined +182 over the three rounds of play. Picking up the silver medal was the Portage Voyageurs (+240) followed by the SAIT Trojans (+276) to claim the bronze medal.

In the men's event, the Rattlers continued to pull away from the SAIT Trojans to secure the Men's Team Championship after shooting a combined +14 overall though three rounds of play. The SAIT Trojans earned the silver medal after shooting a combined score of +24 followed by the Voyageurs (+164) for the bronze medal.

The mixed team event was coming down to the wire heading into the final round of play, however, the MHC Rattlers managed to pull away from the Thunder after shooting a combined score of 722 through three rounds of play to win the ACAC Mixed Team Championship. There was a battle for the silver medal between SAIT and Concordia.  The Thunder would manage to hang on and secure second place after shooting a combined 752 overall, only two strokes ahead of the Trojans.

The 2021 ACAC Golf Season is in the books and now it is time for our conference representatives to prepare to compete against the best in the country as the 2021 CCAA Golf Championships will be held on October 11-15, 2021 in Windsor, ON.
