MBB | Kodiaks Fall to Rattlers in Heated Match

January 27, 2018 – The Kodiaks vs. Rattlers game started with fire on both sides of the court as the rapid pace play begun with energy and injury.

Rattlers player, Jon Sappleton fell down on the court in the first two minutes marking the beginning of an aggressive game and the first free throw of the men's night.

Mid-quarter, the Kodiaks were sitting at 14-6 gaining a slight lead over the Rattlers.

This edge continued throughout the period as the Kodiaks continued to gain steam and their opponents struggled to close the gap.

The score was 22 – 18 going into the second

The second quarter began with unsuccessful attempts on both sides to score. The Rattlers broke this rough streak with a nice layup, and another shot to bring them to a tie.

The teams battled back and forth tirelessly, with the Kodiaks pulling forward once again halfway through the period. Colton Murray brought about the lead with a streak of 4 -4 field goals within the first half.

However, with 3 minutes left in the quarter, the Rattlers pulled ahead at 33 – 36.

It seemed that within this period, something within Medicine Hat's team seemed to click. Their resolve got stronger, and their plays got crisper.

The Kodiaks were not far behind game-play wise, and seemed to only improve with the added heat on behalf of the Rattlers. The first half ended 40 – 39 with the Kodiaks sliding forward.

The second half began with the Kodiaks lengthening the gap in points, and the Rattlers fighting against them with everything they had.

The effort paid off as the Rattlers pulled forward with some nice defence. For most of the 3rd, the Kodiaks struggled with getting through the Rattler's stronghold-  something that began to show the further into the period the teams went.

The 3rd ended with the Kodiaks lagging behind at 62 – 68.

Both teams came into the final period with energy to spare and a score to settle. The bears and the snakes went back and forth for the first half of the last quarter, alternating between scoring points as the Kodiaks attempt to come back from the 3rd

Kodiaks fans were getting heated as the period progressed and little had been done to close the gap between points. Even more so when the Kodiaks curated a technical foul with less than two minutes left in the period.

The Kodiaks seemed to regain a bit of steam with 30 seconds left on the clock, but it wasn't enough to win them the game. The Kodiaks lost 81 – 90.

The next game for the Kodiaks will be Thursday against the SAIT Trojans.
