Oct. 13, 2018 – The defending ACAC champion SAIT Trojans picked up where the left off last season, spoiling the Lethbridge College Kodiaks home opener with a 108-89 victory on Saturday night.
31 points from John Smith and 22 from Charlie Conner led the way for the Trojans, who shot over 50% from the field.
After getting down big early, the Kodiaks fought back and closed the gap to six points after the first quarter. A 9-0 Lethbridge run early in the second briefly tied the game at 35, before the Trojans finished the quarter on a 17-6 run to take a 52-41 lead into the break.
A barrage of Trojans threes in the second half eventually sunk any Kodiaks comeback hopes, with SAIT eventually building their lead to 23 points in the fourth quarter. The visitors finished the evening with nine triples.
Orin Porter Jr. hit for 20 points in his Kodiaks debut while Cardston native Lincoln Anderson knocked down 19 of his own, including a thunderous fourth quarter dunk that brought a sizable Val Matteotti Gym crowd to its feet.
SAIT moves to 2-0 on the season and will play Calgary rival St. Mary's next Friday night. The Kodiaks (0-1) will also head to Calgary next weekend, looking for their first win of the season against the Ambrose Lions.
