Lighnting lose a close one to Lions

As the saying goes " Close only counts in hand grenades and horseshoes". That was the outcome of the St. Mary's University (3-10) Men's 13th game versus the Ambrose University (9-5). The second semester has been a better term for the Lightning team play. In this Friday night contest they had exchanged leads 11 times and tied 11 times. Lightning's team performance revolves around Cordell Minniffee (11 points) and with the help of Kevin Hammer (19 points) who had made a roster appearance at the beginning of January.

Back and forth game each team had leads of 7 points (Ambrose) and 9 points (St. Mary's) but no one could keep that margin. Ambrose success came from the 3 point area hitting 13-31 and balanced scoring from 4 of their starting 5. (Double digits) . Same scenario for the Lightning where their starting five had 64 of their 76 points scored. Jordan Britton had a double-double 10 points / 13 rebounds.

24 of the Ambrose Lions points came off the defensive board creating a fast break situation. Both teams had control of their defensive boards and created many opportunities for teams to score.

In the end the Ambrose University Lions who a nationally ranked team only won the game by two points (78-76). Both teams are back in action on Saturday January 19 at Ambrose University. Tip off at 8pm
