MBB | Kodiaks cannot upset undefeated Trojans

January 18, 2019 - The Kodiaks went head to head with the number one ranked team in the South division Friday evening. The Sait Trojans enter the game undefeated.

The Trojans started the first quarter looking to affirm their talent on the court. Their energy seemed to surprise the Kodiaks at first, however Lethbridge worked their way back into the game near the end of the first quarter.

Lethbridge trailed behind SAIT 32-22 nevertheless, the Kodiaks looked to find their strength for the second quarter.

As both teams headed into the second quarter the Kodiaks proceeded to turn up the intensity by closing the gap on the scoreboard. Orin Porter Jr. of Lethbridge showed off his offensive capabilities by putting up 13 points in the first half and creating opportunities for his team.

Tension grew between teams as the game moved forward. The gap between the score slowly widened as the Trojans continued to increase their lead. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Trojans stayed ahead with a score of 78-63.

The Kodiaks did everything in their power to end the Trojans 12 game winning streak in the last quarter. Ryan Heggie was forced to call two timeouts in the last quarter in his best efforts to interrupt the Trojans offense. While Nick Gibb of Lethbridge kept his mistakes to a minimum and managed to earn some baskets while doing so. However, for Trojans John Smith this was no feat as he was sinking baskets left, right and center. Smith ended the game with 30 points total.

Unfortunately for Lethbridge, their grit and hustle was not enough to overtake Sait. The Trojans would finish the game with a score of 101-95. Christopher Schlauwitz had an excellent performance on the court for the Kodiaks which earned him player of the game.
