Wolves Host Lakeland for a Weekend Series
The mens game will be staring much later then the players are used to, with a tip off time set at 9:30pm. We will see which of these two squads plays better late at night, will the GPRC Wolves men break their losing streak since the Christmas break or will the Lakeland rustlers men keep the GPRC teams winless on Friday niight.
The Tip off goes to Wolves and they take it to the house for 2, they follow that up with a deep 3 scoring 5 unanswered point before a series of missed opportunities lets the Rustlers get on the score board. Both teams have commited to all out offense with little thought to defense, but the missed opportunites and possession changes are telling the tale of this game. The Wolves foul the Rustlers for the second time and after going 2 for 2 the score is 7-6 for the Wolves. After a series of posessions plagued with turnovers the Wolves score for 3 bringing the score to 12-8 for the Wolves. A big defensive stop by #5 for the Wolves lead to a big 3 points and a timeout called by the Rustlers the score is 17-8. After the Wolves went 2 for 2 on a penalty shot the score is 19-8. At the end of the first quarter the score is 19-11 for the Wolves after a late quarter surge by the Rustlers.
Both teams came back from the intermission in an offensicve surge putting the score at 21-14 with 8 minutues left. After great steal by #5 he drives to the net and forces the Rustlers to foul him and he goes 2 for 2 bringing the score to 25-14. The Wolves continue to take advantage of a pouros Rustlers defense scoing back to back 3s to make the score 31-18. Continuing on from the first quarter, both teams are brining an all out offensive style of play, which leads to fast plays and personal fouls. After the latest round the score is 34-22 at the halfway mark. The Wolves allow the ruslters to chip away at their lead after giving up 5 fouls by the 7th minute of play the scroe is 36-27. After a series of turn over and big defensive plays the Rustlers have clawed back to being within one the score is 36-35. After a desperation surge at the end of the quarter, the Wolves maintain their lead at 43-35.
The Wolves start with the ball in th third but they fail to make anything out of it, and the Rustlers capitalize on the ensuing turnover. The Rustlers continue to keep driving the score up taking advantage of the Wolves weakness for rebounds the score is 46-42 after a breakaway dunk for the Rustlers. Not to be outdone the big man #24 uses all his 6 foot 9 frame to dunk the ball and return the momentum to the Wolves 50-45. Its an all out offensive show with the occasiaonl defensive play proving to be the turning point in momentum. At the halfway point its is 55-50. The Rustlers have gotten far more physical in the 3rd, but have racked up 5 fouls with 4:20 to go. Big Al gets a big rebound to send the score to 61-52. The Rustlers call a time out, but the gambit fails as the Wolves score another big 3 pointer after the break the score is 64-54. Big Al is on fire with a big defensive stop after he displayed his basketball in with a perfect layup. At the end of the third quarter the score is 69-56.
The Rustlers start with the ball and after a quick series of steals they force the Wolves to foul them and go 1 for 2. The Rustlers sensing their limited opportunites have adopted a swarming defensive style that leaves the Wolves with little room to breath, but has the unintended effect of causing fouls, after back to back fouls the score is 70-57. After another Wolves 3 the Rustlers call a timeout the score is 73-59. The Rustlers swarming defense gives them 10 unanswered points after going 2 for 2 on a penalty shot and scoring on 2 breakways. The Wolves finally stop the bleeding by going 2 for 2 on penalty shots the score is 77-69. After dazzling display of passing by the Wolves they hit the 3 to take the score to 82-70. The fourth quarter shows both teams getting physical with both at 5 fouls with over 2 minutes to go the score is 88-71 after a big dunk by Big Al with 1:15 left #7 for the Rustlers got his 5th foul letting big al go 1 for 2 putting the score 91-72. Payton Terrel puts the finishing touches on his stellar game by scoring with his own rebound. The Wolves win 93-75!
